I teach seventh grade humanities at Utterback Middle School.  Our school is committed to project-based learning (PBL) as a way to give students the opportunity to solve complex, real-world problems.  PBL allows students to form relationships and find solutions using technology, the professional community and each other in an authentic approach to learning.

Much of this website is currently devoted to the display of my students’ second quarter class project--a student newspaper covering the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire (TSFF) which occurred in New York City in 1911.  Their newspapers are their answer to the project question: “What would make someone buy your newspaper about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire?”

A link to an online survey that will allow you “purchase” my students’ newspapers with your votes is located on the TSFF Project page and elsewhere on this site.

Welcome to Mr. Labardee’s  humanities class website
